Introducing DanceABLE

An Access-Centered Dance Experience

In partnership with c89.5, Seattle Children’s and Not Impossible Labs, we are turbocharging an all-ages dance event with accessibility at its heart. c89.5's DanceABLE experience is the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, tailored to create a better live music experience for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

We've partnered with Not Impossible Labs' Music: Not Impossible project to bring their cutting-edge Vibrotextile™ haptic suits to Seattle, providing the opportunity to immerse yourself in this radical technology.

To accommodate as many users as possible, participants must RSVP for specific time slots which include a quick 'how-to' and suit trial on the dance floor. Registration details below. NOTE: By registering for DanceABLE, you verify that you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or claiming a ticket for someone who is.

DJ Line-up

c89.5 will broadcast LIVE DJ sets from c89.5 program alum DJ D-Double-J and special headlining artist, Anabel Englund!

Activity Schedule

Check back often for more exciting additions as they are confirmed.

11:00 AM to 12:00 PM - Discovering My Path to Space (with ASL Interpretation)
Going to space was never a serious part of Chris Sembroski's future. Yet space continuously captivated his curiosity. Years later, after becoming a veteran and father to two young daughters, Chris found that even the best made plans are meant to change! Learn how he found his path to space, and let his story inspire you to find a path of your own.

12:30 PM to 2:30 PM - DanceABLE Access-Centered Dance Experience (All ages, with ASL interpretation)
Rock the dance floor with c89.5 program alum DJ D-Double-J and special headlining artist Anabel Englund! Everyone is welcome on the dance floor, but registration is required to experience the haptic suits and is reserved exclusively for the deaf or hard of hearing.

3:00 PM to 4:30 PM  - Lecture & Book Signing with Joe Cuhaj, author of Space Oddities (with ASL Interpretation)
Space Oddities brings the unknown, offbeat, and obscure stories of space to life. From the showmanship and bravado of the earliest known space fatality, German Max Valier, to the first ever indictment under the Espionage Act on an Army officer who leaked secrets concerning the development of early U.S. rockets; and the story of a single loose bolt that defeated the Soviet Union’s attempt to beat America to the Moon. Cuhaj will shed light on the human aspects of space travel that have remained industry secrets – until now: how the tradition of using a musical playlist to wake astronauts up began, fascinating tales about inventions like the Fischer Space Pen, Omega watches, and even Tang breakfast drink.
